Mesh of memories

Travel is a starting and ending point of memories. Memories created, recreated and realised. Similarly, memories completed, destroyed and desecrated.

And while this mesh is being woven, you live those moments and take thousands of pictures in your head, reels and reels of movies in you mind. All, so that you can go back and relive them, or hide them, as may be the case.

Sometimes, you capture moments that may not have any meaning to you at the time, but when you look back, they define the trip, the journey. Can one lone picture capture the mesh of memories of a single journey?

I'm not sure if one picture can, but it certainly can tell a story strung with the other ones. I was just thinking of the life you pass while driving, viewed in the rearview mirror of a car. We pass so much, discarding some and keeping others, as you put it. Accepting it all is the challenge.

Liked the title very much.

Yes, it's true. That one special picture is enough to rekindle the memories of a journey. And like you say, "Sometimes, you capture moments that may not have any meaning to you at the time, but when you look back, they define the trip, the journey" - couldn't agree more!

Like the way the photo captures the spirit of the post - as always, of course.

i think its the entire mesh, the fragile cobweb and the dust on it which captures it. a lone memory may set the mood, tell a story on its own, no doubt but in the mesh, we see ourselves reflected as in the mirrors in your picture.

btw, this picture reminds me of the staircase in my house, it doesnt have mirrors but small tinted glasses along its entire height.

i think travel was made just for someone like you....wishing you many travels.

Beautifully expressed. Couldn't have been more apt.

A picture can flood back millions of memories at the most unexpected moments.

The memories may warm your heart, they may make you long for the past, they may make u cry, but the fact that they are still fresh in the mind proves their significance

mermaid - Yes, the rearview offers so much and takes away a lot too. As they say, objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are.

Elixir - Welcome back!

musafir, Pincushion - Thanks, as always.

gulnaz - Thanks for your perspective and the travel wishes. Do you plan to put up a picture of the staicase?

Your writing never fails to fascinate and it is no different this time round. Can one lone picture capture the mesh of memories of a single journey?
The essence of it...perhaps, yes.

"And while this mesh is being woven..."

As some others said, and you yourself put so eloquently, a picture may not always capture the entire mesh of the journey, but surely each picture, each moment of each trip, gets woven into the mesh that's the wonderful tapestry of our lives? The image first made me think of the grand tapestry being woven each moment of our lives. The post just reiterated it in a way....

" Memories created, recreated and realised. Similarly, memories completed, destroyed and desecrated." Very True...
And yes One picture is enough for one to back down the memory lane .... and bring back memories.... That one picture is enough for one to look back with fondness and cherish the moments long hidden and stashed away!

What are the chances that a distracted crawl through the expanse of the web brings me to the words, which makes me go back to the password protected file nestled amongst My Documents, compare the date (Feb 5, 2005), the entry ("what if") & feel serendipitous...maybe its not so surreal after all...there's a lot here that is uncannily similar...the thoughts, painting with words, the ability to get passionate about a dusk, a dawn, a view of the skyline, the travel, the desire to capture an image, introspecting, reminiscing. Another wanderer in the woods of words.

Yes, one picture is enough to take you on a ride down the memory lane...

And each pic we look at has some memory associated with it...

But what is more important than a memory--it is the best gift you can give or receive--I think of travel as gifts--such gifts that I can recall them whenever I choose, they keep on giving. At these times I feel most alive and engaged.

yes, One captured moment can trigger and play reels of those movies which are there in our mind.

I believe it can. As a writer who often looks to capture my feelings with my camera, I have managed a few times to capture the real essence of a journey in one picture. Of course no one else might realize it or feel it but me. On my last trip to Italy the picture that brings it all back is a very blurry shot of my cousins new baby having a bath. The baby, the blur, her hands holding him and washing him... it represents the swirl and rush and blur and warmth of my time there.

great thoughts you evoke, as always!
