Reminisces

I collect
Little fragments
Of memories
When I travel

These fragments
Which I
Look at again
When I want to remember

I create
Imaginary fragments
For the memories
I have not collected

These memories
Are the ones
Which are more
Interesting than reality

I destroy
Other fragments
From my memories
To make them perfect

These fragments and memories
Are more often
Than not
Unrequited

The ideas of assimilation and accomodation are so vital to child/human development. As we learn about the world, we create/accomodate memories about things we see. When something does not fit the mold, we assimilate it into a new idea/memory. I like how you use this to reminisce things "more important than reality."

Also, the fifth stanza is striking. You put this idea in a rough context with destroying in order to perfect memory. Crude, but probably true.

Remembering may or may not be a matter of choice.

But that's just me.

as usual you search for the unsought.

WOW. this is so true! you have written it so lovely. i'm doing this all the time. being in a state of longing for someone.
it's not a great place to be in because it can leave you delusional and with unrealistic expectations.

you've captured it so beautifully :)

I loved it all but this "fragment" sums it up for me. Thank you.

Complements your previous post on a Mesh of memories and takes that a step further...

What struck me, was the stanza in whcih you spoke about destroying memories to create new ones - made me think of how we indulge in that so often (consciously and unconsciously) and how it leads to each one us having diff 'realities' of our own...

Great poem! This can be read again and again! There is often a temptation to "destroy other fragments . . ." to make them perfect. To often, it seems, people try to re-write history to suit their own purposes. But I also like the the softness of "I create imaginary fragments" as a place-holder for things that we have not yet done.

Bravo!

gulnaz - Thanks. Sometimes only fragments remain.

Lorena - Thanks. Glad you could relate to it.

floots, Bonatellis - Thanks for dropping by here and commenting. Look forward to seeing you again.

Geetanjali - Yes, that is why perception becomes reality for oneself.

Anonymous Poet - Thanks for your thoughts on this. Agree with you.

Sorry, that should have been "too" often!

Well..Well...I liked the way you gave identity to each...
First..."These fragments".
Collected them and wrapped them in "These memories".
Trimmed the rest and put the shavings in..."These fragments and memories".
Ya..I didn't miss the "and memories".
So..you do question them before destroying them huh! Nice potrayal.

and those fragments can fill your heart.

Perfectly stated.
Very nice, indeed.

Almost always we can do nothing to make things go the way we want them to, but memories we sure can fiddle around with till we like the pic in the mind!

beautifully put forth...

Little fragments
Of memories
When I travel

.... through the journey of life...

These fragments
Which I
Look at again
When I want to remember

.... or when they choose to drift by..

I create
Imaginary fragments
For the memories
I have not collected

.... wishful thinking.. which more often than not lead to dead ends...

These memories
Are the ones
Which are more
Interesting than reality

.... they make me think and yearn for more....

I destroy
Other fragments
From my memories
To make them perfect

....never can u destroy memory.... they may choose to fade.. but they are still held within you .. may be too deep within.... but a lille but of rekindling.. and they surface out.. as if it was but yesterday...

These fragments and memories
Are more often
Than not
Unrequited

...worse ... they are requited.. but never materialise.. and remain but a memmory...

I guess the reason why I keep visiting your blog is because I can relate/identify with everything you write about. And needless to say, you have a way with words as well.

This post echoes everything that I've felt about travel and memories - especially the part about creating "fragments /
For the memories" not collected. Maybe this is how most tales are born!

Impressive!

Somehow reminds me of "In My Life" by The Beatles.

i like the part about censoring memories, changing them, so we are left with an ideal. this is very human behavior.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, too. I've always felt the topics of art and spirituality are closely related.

I've bookmarked you so I can check in again re. poetry/esthetics. If you or your readers want to check in on the spiritual angle, please do stop by again.

My blog's completely ecumenical and as open to atheists as believers.

Memories are the best gifts in life. Maybe this is true because we can often remember what we want discard the rest. Thank you.

What would happen if all memories are equally balanced? Can they all be accepted for their lessons?

Why are memories accesible at certain times and not others?
Im not sure how I found my way here, but I am glad I did.

Pecos Blue - "Memories are the best gifts in life." That is wonderful and new way of looking at it.

MARYBETH - I am glad you found your way here. Look forward to seeing you again.
