Incomplete rain

There is nothing like the smell of red earth and the pouring rain.

It is raining right now. It started off as a small disturbing sound outside my window. Then like the traffic passing you by. And then beating down on the earth, on tin, on windows. And then slowing down to a drizzle. Slowly. Softly. But still there. Droplets trickling down the window pane alternated by fat drops falling from the ledge above. One at a time. Purposefully. The tree swaying to the early morning rain. The rain mingled with the dawn.

But there is no smell of the red earth with this pouring rain.

This rain is not complete.

It seems to me as if the strength with which the rain falls all depends on how badly I need a washing.

Your ending caught me off guard. The rain is not complete
without the red earth
is not complete
without the sky
is not complete
without the air
is not complete
without breathing.

Ah, but it comes in its own time.

I never realized this. Maybe I was too exhilarated with the intimation of the rain..the smell of the earth, the heaviness in the air, the drizzle that bursts..

I like what you've said, A. I can't come up with the right words to say..but I like it that you choose not to fool yourself.

I'm blown away by the imagery your words create...

The whole passage is just reverberating with sensuality and then that last line felt like a punch in my belly - ::M:: is quite right, you sure don't fool yourself do you?

I love the rain which is why i was MEANT to live in Oregon. And it is true there is a scent that has to accompany the rain. I never let a rainstorm pass with out an open window.

The Rain is not complete....
but it still is called rain, perhaps that is why we sometimes get fooled by it. and as .:M:. said, you managed not to fool yourself :)

I wish snow had a particular smell. It's been snowing here lately. I find rain so much more romantic. Waiting for Spring to come!

PoeticMermaid - Interesting thought. Thanks for your words.

Garrison Steelle - It does.

:..M..:, Geetanjali, AmitKen - Thanks. Sometimes the anticipation can be more overwhelming than the event itself. Reality is not always perfectly beautiful.

Jessica - An open window in a rainstorm adds so much to the feeling of the rain.

Aradhita - Thanks.

Miss Qt - It is odd that snow does not have a distinct and strong smell. Snow is something that you would expect to have a smell, isn't it?

its so strange today, as i walking out, for some unknown reason i suddenly stopped and remembered the monsoons..it was drizzling here in london (what else.lol) and the earth DIDN'T have that earth smell..i actually twitched my nose trying to catch the scent..but alas..it didnt exist..and..that was my most cherished thing about the rain...
and then I read THIS !

amazing.

Lost the sense of abstract pleasures
Of play and dance to the raindrops beat,

Lost the scents of rain on earth
In search of the more concrete!
