The dreaming tree

Early morning, misty sunrise that can’t be seen. I am but a shadow, in your vision beyond. As you look for something more beautiful. The fields of gold lie beyond my soul. You won’t remember me tomorrow. I wouldn’t remember me, if I was not stuck with me. But I am.

Thousands drive past this rubble day by day. There is no place to stop. Even if there was, what would happen differently? Nothing.

But there is a boy. Who stares at me as he passes by. In his eyes, I see a story. Not his story, but the one he is going to write. I see his eyes frozen by the landscape, looking, not hearing a thing. Not even the traffic. He is not thinking of the story. He is dreaming of it. But he doesn’t know it.

So he captures what he sees, freezing it with a quick open-close of the shutter and carries on. Dreaming.

I was typing my comment, and i realised i had typed what cowlick said...

But seriously, that's touching. So much hope, so much truth. There's that boy everywhere, so much of him around us, it's nice to hope that some of them can make it happen.

if it can think, the tree would probably agree with your surmise of it's perspective(but considering the enormity of what passes by it, would it remember a dreamer with a camera?)...nice one, all the same...
thanx for dropping by my blog...

oh, how poignantly you have captured our tendency to ignore the shadow, to overlook the unpretty, to pretend the gold lies beyond the mundane...

your camera is a treasure...

your writing is a gift...

And I'm waiting to hear more of the story that the boy was dreaming of :)

Serene Silhouette. Words to match it up! Nice!

Beautiful! Very touching.

The photo itself is like a dream...

An observer of the self? The most intuitive people I know can watch themselves on stage, acting out their lives, and see the whole film strip from beginning to end. Each individual frame has a significance, which they perceive, even if it doesn't come to them in that one moment.

The tree appears old and wise and seasoned, just as he is, observing the younger self.

awesome. particularly i like the way u have made the tree the speaker, weaving yourself unobstrusively into the scene. kudos!

Wonderful. I don't know why but I thought of Keats' Ode on a Grecian Urn,

Heard melodies are sweet, but those unheard
Are sweeter; therefore, ye soft pipes, play on;
Not to the sensual ear, but, more endeared,
Pipe to the spirit ditties of no tone. . . .

Beautiful.

This reminds me of what I posted for today.

A take on another perspective. Different, yet familiar...because you understand it yourself.

Very powerful image and story. I can picture that boy. Nice job.

"Not his story, but the one he's going to write..."

You have such interesting ways of getting at different levels/forms of consciousness.

it looks as though you have accomplished two things I have not: 1. Write from the perspective of an inanimate object. This is an incredibly difficult thing to do, but you have given this tree a voice all its own; and 2. The 55-word poem seems daunting! Well done on both counts!!

Extempore, Phoenix, Paul - Thank you.

Phal - :-)

The Complimenting Commenter - Thanks for dropping by and for the compliment.

stan laurel - Thanks. Are you planning to take on the 55 words? Would love to see one by you.

I often feel that way when photographing or other moments...
On my other blog, I describe my occupation as "artist dreamer."
My favorite subjects to photography vary depending upon my mood, but often I choose trees and sunsets. Ahhhhhhhhh.
Glorious post amidst the reflective angst.
(this is a link to my other blog, but I have very little poetry there and only a few photos because I'm redesigning.)

Green-Eyed Lady - Thanks for sharing your perspective here. "Artist dreamer" is very interesting indeed!
