Incomplete Sunrise

I woke up early today morning and hoped to see a sunrise after what seemed like an eternity. For some reason, I did not get to see a 'proper' sunrise. But what I got to see was what is in the picture below. Somehow, I think this was as beautiful, if not more than seeing a proper 'sunrise'.

Sunrises are MUCH tougher to catch than sunsets. Not to mention the fact that you have to get up too friggin' early to see them!

What exactly does a "proper" sunrise look like? ;) This one looks fine & healthy to me.

I don't wake early engough to catch the sunrise but I always amke it a point to catch the sunset. Guess I'm not a sunrise person I just like the sun setting on me.

When I was living in Alexandria I used to wake up before sunrise and then I could perceive not one but three rainbows that used to make me feel like lost in a surrealistic dream. I always felt that that scene was as beautiful if not more appealing than the proper sunrise. This is a very beautiful picture. Kind regards from Pandora:)

sunsets are better because they are a beginning insted of an end...though I agree I am not so thrilled with the early rise in order to glimpse one. Nice picture .:A:.

it was inevitable and bittersweet
to come one after the other
yet never truly meet

I find a similarity between this pic and the previous one, though, they are both so different ! Both have juxtaposed light with darkness..a contrast..just as in your writing ! Perhaps you are a man of contrasts ;-)..interesting..lol !

This is beautiful.

The sad thing is I don't know if this is what a sunrise looks like. It's been a while since I've seen one. I should wake up earlier more often.

Nice pic indeed! Seems like you captured the glimmer and play of sunshine behind the clouds! :-)

Garrison Steelle, Akshay, Jessica, Toni - Sunrises are much tougher and waking up early in the morning can sometimes really be a pain. The ones that are really worth it, are when you have a very very late night and end up staying awake to see the sun rise.

Ariel - A 'proper' sunrise ... hhmmm. Well, more of the sun I guess. :-)

Pandora - Your description of the 3 rainbows sounds wonderful. Do you have any pics of these beautiful sunrises (I know the rainbows were perceived but I still want to see the inspiring sunrises)!.

Jessica - You mean sunrises are better because they are the beginning of the day or sunsets are better because they are the beginning of the night? ;-)

Free Spirit - Thanks for your lovely verse.

Pincushion - You know what, even I thought that there was something similar about the 2. Thanks for putting it down. Actually, I think there is something similar about the last 3. Need to pinpoint it though.

Queen Mo - I wish you get the see the sun back soon! :-)

QuaTros - Thanks for dropping by. I liked the pic on your site too.

Unfortunately, dear :A:, I was not able to have a camera with me during those days. Still I believe it's a bit selfish when I think that those souvenirs are just for me...:)

Pandora - How unfortunate! I would have loved to see them.

Sunrises are for me magic moments. They are resourcing. They let you see things under a new sky or maybe new things under the sky.

Sunrise in the city, after a party night and you stop by the bakery for fresh croissants, still hot and already crusty. All is calm, people still in some half-sleep or half-dream wander like spirits.

Sunrise in the countryside. The mist penetrates your body. At the same time it escapes your mind. Birds syrinx vibrate repeatedly and you enter trance. Slowly the sun rises and heats your dormant extremities. You shiver and come to life again.

Almost forgot the indian sunrise. For me it augured a good day to see the brahmin neighbor doing his little poojah thing. I was still sleeping on the balcony on a mere straw mat enjoying the few bearably warm hours. He would roam around the roof of his house, spread water, ring a little bell and tell some mantra. At the same time ladies washed their front door, and draw with chalk beautiful kollams. Progressively sun was rising. I used to consider life's futility. Maybe futility is hapiness and this "maya", this illusion of the being was waving at my ultra-materialistic atheist european mind.

kale-e-do-scope - Thanks for sharing your thoughts on sunrises. Very beautiful. I really like the situations you have outlined. Sunrises mean so much to different people in different situations. Thanks for dropping by and look forward to having you around again.

In intention to wake up early
To catch the first glimpse of sunrise
Yet the dream of holding such beauty
Took me in a miss fulfilling this desire
Still I woke up smiling with sunshine
For my soul had kept its own sunrise
